Some of you may have surmised that this blog isn’t in real time – actually we are two stops beyond Grassy Head. When asking my twins what they had liked best
about our trip so far – they do not answer Merimbula with its Magic Mountain, or Bathhurst with the adrenaline of Mt Panorama or even
Timbertown which totally fascinated them.
No they will tell you Grassy Head – and can we please go back. What was at Grassy Head to make them feel
this way – well nothing and that was its beauty.
What did we want after leaving Port Macquarie, a quiet beach
holiday – hopefully with better weather.
I had holidayed at Nambucca Heads many years ago and had loved aspects
of this region – especially the unspoiled beaches south of there. Having researched, we found three caravan
parks we were interested in, but one in particular – Grassy Head.
When we arrived there (after going through another park
which was alright but not what we wanted) it was totally
perfect. The caravan park was right next
to the beach. Grassy Head had three
houses down a lane, a day reserve and then the caravan park. There were four vans and a tent – it was
QUIET (well apart from the birds). We
set up our van had a spot of lunch and straight away had our first cool
visitor. Grassy Head was like that –
there were Kookaburras (always on the hunt for a scrap), goannas, flying foxes
and a plethora of other birds. As a bonus it was also quite a bit cheaper than more popular parks.
We booked two nights but added another as we didn't want to leave. Over the next days we explored the beaches (two were in walking distance from the caravan park) and for a family from Canberra the water was warm. We almost had to keep pinching ourselves, here we were swimming with ease and no wetsuits in late April. We did a couple of the coastal walks, went to the rainforest that was literally minutes from the caravan park (that journey is a separate blog entry), played games with the kids and totally and utterly relaxed. Grassy Head was and is awesome and we can't wait to go back some day and do more nothing.
Grassy Head looks and feels quite magical, one of those special memories for you all. :)
